What are the benefits of baking your own bread if you're watching your diet? Probably the most important aspect of doing anything
on your own is that you are in control--which means you get to see what goes into what you eat. You can choose the best
ingredients, whether it's high grade flour or free range eggs, and you can leave out the trans fats, preservatives or artificial
ingredients.
Homemade means you control the sugar content and the sodium content; both of which can be high with commercially prepared breads.
Whole grain would really mean whole grain if you use 100% whole wheat flour; you won't need to wonder about what that label is
really saying. And if you have serious food allergies you simply avoid using those offensive ingredients, with no chance of cross
contamination from factory equipment that produce commercial bread.
