Chocolate & Fig Cake

Ingredients (for 2-lb. breadmaker):

  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup orange liqueur*
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 7 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups (about 6.5 oz.) dried fig

Ingredients (for 1-lb. breadmaker):

  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/8 cup milk
  • 3 Tbsp. orange liqueur*
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (about 3 oz.) dried fig

*Substitute orange liqueur with milk to make this recipe non-alcoholic

This recipe was developed for the Home Bakery Virtuoso® Breadmaker (BB-PAC20), Home Bakery Supreme® Breadmaker (BBCC-X20/BB-CEC20) and the Home Bakery Mini Breadmaker (BB-HAC10). Adjustments may be required for baking this bread in other models of the Home Bakery.


Make sure the kneading blade(s) are properly attached, and add the ingredients to the baking pan in the order listed, except for the dried figs.


Place the baking pan into the Home Bakery, close the lid and plug the cord into the outlet. Select the CAKE course, and press START. While the breadmaker kneads, chop the dried figs into 1/2-inch cubes and dust with flour (not listed in ingredients).


When the add beeps sound, open the lid and carefully scrape off any flour that may be left on the side of the pan with a rubber spatula. Please be careful if the kneading blade(s) are moving.


Add the flour-dusted figs, close the lid and continue baking. (For the 1-lb. model, press START to resume kneading.)


When baking completes, allow the cake to cool, remove from pan, slice and serve.
