We don\u2019t have a big grill outside and I don\u2019t do backyard hotdogs while guzzling beer, <em>but<\/em> I do cook steaks sometimes, squatting near my small Weber\u00ae on the patio and trying not to overcook \u2018em. Can you draw this picture inside your head? If you can, don\u2019t do it. What we love to do is go to the AYCE KBBQ (All You Can Eat Korean Barbecue), and we\u2019re looking forward to doing that again real soon. In the meantime, I busted out my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/app\/product\/ebdlc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Zojirushi Grill<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and we had a mini version inside.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a couple things I noticed about this grill. It gets plenty hot enough fast; and because it\u2019s electric you can stay on top of the temperature and make quick adjustments, unlike my charcoal one. The surface area was large enough for our family of 3, and probably good enough for even 4. We haven\u2019t tried it with more than this, so I can\u2019t say\u2026 Bonus Points: it makes really nice char lines!<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"KBBQ\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GvtICkxLePA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you do this at home, make sure you have some essential tools. Tongs of course, and a pair of kitchen shears to cut up the <em>galbi.<\/em> If you want to impress your friends but drive them crazy, make them eat with a pair of authentic Korean flat metal chopsticks <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/photo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5360 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/photo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a>(jeotgarek).<\/em> Not as difficult to use as the Chinese ones, but harder than the wooden Japanese ones. Why are they metal anyway? The origins go back to the Baekje Kingdom (18 B.C to 660 A.D.) when silver chopsticks were used by the royalty to detect poison in their food, because the silver chopsticks were thought to change color if there was poison. Metal ones are also more durable and hygienic, and they won\u2019t burn when used on a hot grill. That makes a ton of sense, right? If you\u2019re interested in chopsticks, here\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/?p=738\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>past blog<\/strong><\/span><\/a> you can read!<\/p>\n<p>Check the simplicity of this mouthful that I\u2019m about to scarf. And so healthy looking too! Leafy lettuce, perilla, <em>gochujang<\/em>, raw garlic and jalape\u00f1o. People get the impression that KBBQ is all about meat, which it is, but there\u2019s so much more to the ingredients involved. And I haven\u2019t even discussed the <em>banchan<\/em>, all the side dishes that you can serve with it. That\u2019s a whole other chapter.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/handheld-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just in case you\u2019re wondering how to clean this grill, it\u2019s non-stick so it cleans pretty easily, But to get a head start, I would suggest getting a wet paper towel and going over it while it\u2019s still hot. Most of the major gunk came right off. Grilled corn! I tried Mexican Street Corn <em>(elotes)<\/em> and Japanese Street Corn <em>(yaki tomorokoshi),<\/em> and both came out spectacularly.<\/p>\n<p>All you do for the Mexican Corn is make a batch of that famous creamy dressing using mayo, <em>cotija<\/em> cheese and chile powder. You can find recipes for it everywhere; slather it on the grilled corn to get that excellently hard-core street food flavor. How can plain grilled corn look so good?<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5353\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.zojirushi.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Mexican-corn-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The only way to get more \u201cstreet\u201d than this is to go to the street to get it. Make a mixture of soy sauce and <em>mirin<\/em> and brush it on while the corn is still grilling. Grilled corn can take a long time to cook, so to speed up the process you might want to parboil them first by boiling them in water for 2 or 3 minutes before grilling. I simply microwaved mine\u2014works just as good.
