The iconic Red Rose is still the most popular flower given on Valentine's Day. Did you know that all the blooms have a particular symbolism attached to them that say something to the person you are giving them to? It might be wise to know some of the messages behind that bouquet you're giving--they can say a lot to the person you care about, and not just on Valentine's Day.
Roses The classic rose is timeless and captures everything about love, romance, beauty and perfection. Red roses are the most passionate and meant for lovers, pink roses are a little more casual and signify more of an admiration and sweetness of thought. White roses are thought to be pure and used most often at weddings, while yellow signifies friendship, familiarity and domestic bliss. Orange symbolizes an expression of pride or amazement, so a bouquet of these could be ideal for graduation. And finally, purple roses represent a majestic type of eternal love, primarily given on wedding anniversaries beyond 25 years.
Daisies This cheerful flower has always been a favorite to receive because of its happy image. They are known to symbolize beauty, innocence and purity; and their availability in all the peppy colors further enhances their joyous personality.
Tulips Most often associated with the Netherlands, the tulips convey the perfect love. The feeling is one of comfort and warmth, so tulips are a classic flower and a good choice for Valentine's Day.
Lilies Although there are many kinds of lilies, the white Oriental lily typically stands for beauty, class and style. Because they are an expensive flower and have a dramatic appearance, a man would be perceived as sophisticated and very knowledgeable about his partner, if he were to present a bouquet of these on Valentine's Day.
Orchids They are the flowers that send the message of seduction--a person who gives orchids is a little wilder than the person who gives a dozen roses. Orchids symbolize love, beauty and strength. They last longer than most other flowers, whether in a bouquet or a pot.
Carnations Although associated more with Mother's Day than for Valentine's, white carnations can also be romantically symbolic of a pure and new love. They're more affordable than roses, so for a couple just starting a relationship, carnations might be ideal.
Gardenias The elegant and fragrant gardenia signifies purity, joy and a kind of deep and old fashioned love. This is definitely the flower for a veteran couple who have been together for many years. A gift of gardenias is a clear statement on a day like Valentine's.
