Vacuum Insulated Mugs & Bottles

Q1: What is peeling from the interior of my vacuum mug?

A: What you are seeing inside your vacuum insulated mug is an accumulation of tea or coffee stain layers that are peeling off the surface of the mug. Staining may be removed with a bleach/chlorine-free food and beverage stain remover.

Q2: What are the black dots on my rubber gaskets?

A: The black dots or brown discoloration are mold, which is very difficult to remove. In this case, we recommend replacing the part. Replacement parts may be ordered from our online Zojirushi Parts & Accessories page. Please ensure that after cleaning the gaskets they are allowed to air dry completely to prevent mold from developing.

Q3: Can I fill my vacuum insulated mug with milk or carbonated drinks?

A: It is not recommended to fill the vacuum mug with any type of beverage containing dairy or carbonated drinks. Filling the vacuum mug with dairy can cause curdling and leave residual odors.

Q4: Is the nonstick coated interior of my Zojirushi mug or bottle PFOA-free?

A: Yes, all of our mugs or bottles with a nonstick coated interior are PFOA-free.

Q5: Is my Zojirushi vacuum insulated mug or bottle dishwasher safe?

A: Zojirushi vacuum insulated mugs or bottles and all their components are not dishwasher safe. We recommend handwashing them with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge and then letting them fully dry before their next use. For detailed instructions on how to care for your Zojirushi vacuum insulated mug or bottle, please refer to your instruction manual.

Q6: Where can I order replacement parts for my vacuum bottle?

A: Replacement parts may be ordered may be ordered from our online Zojirushi Parts & Accessories page or by calling our Customer Service Department at 800-733-6270, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST. Please have the model number ready when calling.

Q7: How can I maximize the effectiveness of my vacuum bottle?

A: Preheat or precool your vacuum bottle by filling it with hot or cold water, attach the stopper, and let stand for at least five minutes. Empty the water and fill it with the desired beverage. Cool bottles are for filling cold beverages only.

Q8: How can I clean my vacuum bottle?

A: Always rinse out your vacuum bottle after each use and rinse the stopper under running water. Do not soak the vacuum bottle in water or place it in a dishwasher to clean. The exterior, stopper, and cup(s) can be cleaned using a moist sponge or soft cloth and mild dishwashing liquid. The interior can be cleaned using a mild dishwashing liquid and then rinsed thoroughly. Please refer to your instruction manual for more.

Q9: What if my vacuum bottle leaks from the stopper?

A: Please ensure all the rubber gaskets are installed correctly. If all parts are in place, then the leaking may be caused by liquid that is trapped inside the spout, or moisture remaining in the cup or cup/cap. To alleviate this, allow liquid to completely drain back into the bottle after pouring and before closing the spout. Close the spout and shake the bottle to expel any excess liquid that may still be in the spout. Wipe away moisture from the cup or cup/cap before closing. Be sure to unscrew the stopper and rinse under running water after each use.

Q10: What is SlickSteelĀ® finish?

A: Zojirushi SlickSteelĀ® Finish is an alternative to our nonstick coating. They are non-coated on the inside and instead use an electrically charged polishing process to treat and finish the interior. The result is a corrosion resistant surface that repels foreign substances and stains, creating a smooth and ultra-clean stainless steel environment for your drinks. Q11: Is my Zojirushi vacuum bottle BPA-free?

A: All Zojirushi vacuum mugs and bottles are made of high quality 18/8 stainless steel and BPA-free plastic. Lids, stoppers, and mouth rings are also BPA-free.

Q12: Why does my beverage sometimes spill from my travel mug SM-YAE48?

A: The travel mug SM-YAE48 has a fill line inside indicating how much can be filled. Overfilling your mug above this fill line may cause contents to leak or the lid to open accidentally and could be dangerous.
