Classic Coffee Gelatin

Zojirushi Recipe – Classic Coffee Gelatin

This slightly sweetened coffee dessert also known as "coffee jelly" is a popular dessert in Japan. Pour cream over the gelatin before serving. The recipe is easy to make - perfect to enjoy with your coffee loving friends!

            	Classic Coffee Gelatin  Ingredients

Ingredients (serves 3-4): 

  • 1 envelope (0.25 oz.) unflavored gelatin 
  • 3 Tbsp. water
  • 3 Tbsp. instant coffee 
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar 
  • 1-1/2 cups boiling water (208°F)
  • 1/4 cup cold water 

Topping: 

  • 1 Tbsp. sugar 
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream

Fill Zojirushi water boiler & warmer with water and set temperature to 208°F.

In a small bowl, place 3 tablespoons of water, sprinkle an envelope of gelatin and let stand 1 minute to bloom.

In a medium bowl, place instant coffee, sugar, pour boiling water and stir until coffee and sugar dissolve completely.

Add bloomed gelatin from step 2 to the sweetened coffee and stir until gelatin dissolves completely.

Add cold water to the coffee mixture and mix well. Pour into a small glass container and refrigerate until firm, about 3 hours.

Dip bottom of the baking pan in warm water (not included in the ingredients list) for 20-30 seconds. Cut gelatin into small cubes, carefully scoop with a large spoon and distribute to serving cups.

Make the topping. In a small bowl, mix sugar into heavy cream. Top chilled gelatin with sweetened cream and serve.

Take-out Idea: 

Pack gelatin in a pre-chilled Zojirushi Stainless Steel Food Jar and take it with you to lunch. Pack your favorite single packaged coffee creamer to top it before serving.
